Many of the children in the program are not orphans and have one or both parents, or live with a relative.
To keep children from underprivileged families in school and promote quality education, Relief Care Uganda under its “Communities of Hope” program supports several needy children with scholastic materials and other basic needs. This program started in 2018 with support from our partner organization Relief Care Uganda Sweden. The children under this program are identified through Relief Care Uganda’s direct engagements in vulnerable communities of operation, from child headed families, under privileged homes and orphans. Each day the number of children in need to access an education increases as the community leaders continue sending more children to be enrolled to the education program
At RCU we are not into mass production, we look for the best in every child and endeavor to give them the best (‘giving the best to the least’). Our Kindergarten and primary school. It provides education to vulnerable children from communities with in Kasanje, other neighboring Sub counties and Wakiso District in Uganda.
Support from donors and welwishers to the Communities of Hope program is used to cover costs of child’s education, uniform, school meals and materials. Relief Care Uganda’s social workers make routine visits to each child at home to assess their situation and often have input into the wider family. Children that are part of CoH remain living in the community at home inclusive of the orphaned who are attached to volunteer families but remain supported by RCU
A child can be supported on a monthly basis and each child normally has only one sponsor — although sometimes a group can sponsor a child, such as a school class, a church, family, company or organisation. Money from a sponsor will never be given directly to the family or parents of the child, rather it will be distributed to the school to pay for the child’s fees and other basic needs
